Album tracks finished

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Yesterday we successfully finished the work on the tracks for the upcoming album. The tune in question is by Phace and the two of us, and guess what, it’s hot. It combines the braintwisted phacealiscious statement of music with our straight bustin’ bassline and the drumfocus on your dancing pleasure. Actually, it’s a quite remarkable one, going by the name of “Deep Throat”. What? Yeah, right. This tune should be pretty easy to recognise on the dancefloor, containing several, well, interesting elements as pointed out be its title, hehe…”beats for boys” says it all.
Now it’s straightforward to enter mastering stage and finish the album’s artwork. As soon as that’s done, we’ll post some clips on the whole thing. Keep your ears open.

Album news

Friday, March 24th, 2006

As stated in a previous post, here are some news on the forthcoming album “Beautiful Bytes” on Basswerk:

We’ve almost finished the making of all tunes, except for one, which is a product of the two of us and Phace! We expect the works to be done by end of next week, so mastering will start directly after that. The tracklist will be defined in the next couple of days, but you can bet there are some tunes, which you have already been waiting for ;) We also had very good response in playing a lot of tunes in question out on our North America tour, both to the baaad dancefloor bombs and the more musical ones.
Artwork is also in progress and is being done by a trusted friend of ours. Looks really nice and emphasizes our thoughts on “Beautiful” and “Bytes”.

Without going too much into detail it should be possible to have the whole process – as least our part of it – finished by mid April, so stay tuned to more news, like tracklist and/or snippets.

Back from the North America tour

n&d

Finally, we’re back in Germany. Oh my gosh, this tour was a mighty emotional rollercoaster, featuring some of the worst and some of the best impressions we ever made as djs. Overall, we’re really happy having been there, as we’ve met people that we now proudly call our friends, experienced intense shows and had a few days on a continent that contains some mutual and some very diverse facets compared to Europe.

Pictures can be found here (updated)

After arrival in Boston and meeting Zach Gunther, the guy who actually contacted and booked us there, we pretty soon realized that the tour wasn’t well planned at all. Ranging from straight organizational stuff (no cell phone, no clue how to get to the border…), over monetary issues (we had to pay to gas to Montreal by ourselves for a car with severe damage), to legal issues (Zach is not allowed to enter Canada, and quite a lot of issues caused by certain ingredients within car and driver). This mixture of worries really overshadowed the first couple of days, forcing us to engage into planning issues, calling other people to pick us up at the border and so on. You can imagine that we were close to being slighty pissed. This is not what you would expect, when somebody “books” you overseas with plenty of time in advance. Looking back now, I’m pretty sure this didn’t happen out of bad intentions, but out of a mixture between the dream of taking part in DnB business, a severe lack of knowledge/experience and ressources and a very unprofessional “life style”. So we were very enlighted when JB (aka DJ Bind) and Sebastien from the Montreal based Beat Concierge crew picked us up on the US side of the border at 2AM and got us to Montreal, showing us some very nice places, introducing us to the rest of the crew, esp. Steve(DJ Kiffah) and Stephane(DJ Golgo 13). After feeling totally lost, this felt like people caring for you. This impression of reliable, very professionally acting persons pretty soon mixed with a friend-like trust. I think we can really feel lucky to having met these people!

The next day we met Zach again (he actually had made it through the border), together driving to Quebec, where we met Matthew of the local crew in the igloo-styled house :) tabernac snow!!! and played a cool show. AFAIK we literally were the first international DnB djs to spin there. Yeah! After some impressive sightseeing, we drove back to Montreal. On this trip, we again had some bad discussions with Zach, this time about money and travelling. Although we see ourselves as people far from being greedy, just wanting to get back their money for the flights we paid in advance, we seemed to talk to different persons every then and now, cancelling deals and switching plans. As a result, we had to cancel the shows in Denver and Minneapolis (of which we still today don’t know whether it was really confirmed), as to our surprise Zach really wanted to take the whole distance of 6800km from Vermont to Denver to Minneapolis to Boston by CAR, and especially within four days. Wow. Can you imagine that. No way. Tickets for flight were not possible either, as it turned out, due to monetary reasons. We are really sorry for the people in Denver+Minneapolis who probably have put in quite an amount of energy and we promise to come back some day, but as hopefully everybody understands, this was no proper option for us.

Nevertheless, the Montreal gig was absolutely off the hook. I think the club we played in, which previously had been a swimming hall, was one of the most impressive ones I’ve ever seen or even played in. People dancing in the – of course empty – pool, huge globes hanging from the wall, and box fighting style show set up with a round bell and girls announcing the next round aka the next dj to appear on stage. Cool.

After having another couple of very nice days in Montreal with the crew, and doing some crazy production session with Generic and Subtone, which we’re really eager to continue, we took the bus to Burlington (Vermont/USA), where we were cheerfully greeted by Janet aka Sekhmet. We really enjoyed being in her house, meeting Tricky Pat and the rest of the local headz. The “Whiplash” show in the local club was quite different from the big club in Montreal, as it was very small bar, but loaded with a very intense athmosphere, which had already been the stage for people like Mayhem, Phace, Evol Intent and others. The next morning, we were featured on Sekhmet’s radio show on techno.fm. We stayed one more night, then made our way to Felix, and friend of ours in Boston, just to catch a short glimpse of spring with having a grill party in March!, before we finally took the plane back to Cologne.

In total, this really was an astonishing tour, with some bad parts, but a very exciting and good experience in the end, so thanks again everybody for having us at your house and/or for joining to the parties we played at. Hope to see you again not to far away from now!
