Really looking forward to that!

Really looking forward to that!

Really looking forward to that!

…I can’t believe it happened again.
I was playing with Rusher two “Barcode vs. Renegade Hardware” shows in the Czech Republic on October 13th&14th.
After the second show at 6.oo am, twenty minutes before our check-in for flight back home, we were given only the half of the fee we were asking for, pretending that they weren’t recieving the mail and that there weren’t enough people for giving us the fee (…which is the promoter’s risk btw).
The Parties were promoted by Basstillbeat for their bass.complex party series in Ostrava & Brno.
I truly can’t recommend those Promoters. I hate myself for not having used a contract.
Too sad, that still people are successful with ripping artists off.
30th of October / EDIT:
some other guy, DJ MKS from prague was attacking me on myspace in a very bad way. for those who understand german…unbelievable.

this website got some extra pack of spam for two weeks now…that’s why we had to insert a spamfilter as you can see on the bottom… -> have a think… unbelievable.

I’m a very structured person. To be honest, I’m probably way too structured, resulting in too much effort to prepare things than finally used. Over the last couple of years I had incrementally built a huge sample archive, consisting of a fine-grained folder hierarchy, which allowed me to find samples in an instant. As you can imagine, this took some time.
It’s pretty straighforward to organize single samples once you create them, but gets catchy when you receive dozens of gigabytes from a befriended producer. The simple way in that case would be to create a new subfolder “samples from xy” and move the entire stuff in there. The perfect solution of course requires you to scan the complete heap and move the stuff files by file or maybe subfolder by subfolder. Some inner voice always urged me to be of the latter type.
That voice, however, died a couple of weeks ago, when my sample harddrive stopped working from one day to another. I had kept backups for all my arrangement projects and stored audio file copies in the respective project folder whenever possible, but still there were lots of crosslinks from the project folders to the sample drive, mainly through Kontakt and/or Battery kits which I hadn’t explicitely saved.
At that point I felt, I’d lost it all. Really.
Obviously, insight no.1 is to take backups of your samples, too.
Though I was able to restore some part of the original sample pile, some was lost, and with it the seemingly perfect folder structure. While gathering new samples from various sources in huge packages, I decided to use a different approach this time. Why that?
Instead, I now try to be honest with myself: When I find I’m spontanously not using a certain folder’s elements, I get rid of them. Chances are that in the future I will get even better samples than those, so if I don’t use them now, I never will. But to keep a certain level of structure, I now use working folders, where I put in samples I currently use, kind of I an on-the-fly manner. This allows me to find the ones I’m feeling at the moment very quickly. Once in a while I open up a new folder. This method is like a shortcut-type mapping of my current sample folder in the audio-storage of my brain to the harddrive.
Still after having lost all the data I could not fully reproduce certain projects aka tracks. On the other hand, this allows me to re-think those tracks. Feels a bit like a bush fire which allows for new life to make its way.
The downside, you may say, is to concentrate on few samples. Yes, but it’s more like you are into a certain type of sound anyway for a limited period of time. Moreover, I’m always free to add elements from the huge sample ocean in the background to my tiny pool.
The positive side is that I work faster and avoid those annoying sample re-scanning/archiving sessions. Also, I now more strongly distinguish between using samples I know and just picking some spontanously, which allows me to decide when to focus and when to experiment.
Thinking more on-the-fly instead of the be-prepared-for-every-situation approach.
To summarize, I moved from structure in work objects to structure in my working processes. Hard, but valuable lesson for myself.

Oh my gosh, gigs in Switzerland are something really special! It kills me everytime.
This time, when playing in Aarau, we met Hungarian boys Jade & Matt-U – really nice guys. Remember, it’s all bout the Schlong, haha! Check the pictures we’ve taken there. Big big up the PossessedBy crew!

Enjoy the show on Cologne-based Campus Radio.
