Hunchback released on Sinuous Records

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

From the promo text:

When it comes to Sinuous Records you can always expect something new & cutting edge and the releases this year have been nothing less than exceptional. Taking you into a new era and introducing you to some original sounds of experimental dancefloor mayhem with their latest 2 part series Evolution of Mind. The first instalment will be dropping on the streets in the next coming months, so make sure you order your copy now.
First up is the dynamic studio combination of the amazing sounds of Germany’s Dizplay and Switzerland’s finest Lost Sequence with their killer track “Hunchback”. On the flip is one of Russia’s most hottest dnb exports N-Phonix with “Piranha”, this delivers some serious futuristic funk. Both tracks will have you begging for more but don’t worry the next installment won’t be far behind.

Dizplay, best known for the album he produced with his brother N-Phect “Beautiful Bytes”, has hooked up with the 3 man piece Lost Sequence to deliver “Hunchback”. A dark, rollin neuro monster, with drifting pads and tight crisp beats, deadly subs & insane midrange, topped off with a fistful of killer hooks that makes sure you’re straight to the dancefloor eveytime.

Basswerk sessions vol. 3

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

From the Basswerk site:

our goal has always been to keep a variety of musical d&b styles although we are aware that this scene shows tendencies to split into different subgenres. that is reason why we made 3 cds with different styles this time.we like to represent a style-mix in our events, and still like to dig deep into the different styles.

while those parties are in fact special celebrations, we want to bring a little bit of that flavor to your home. and of course we also want to bring some basswerk tunes into the dj-bags ;-). we expect the cd to be released end of june.

Be sure to check out Profiler, my personal contribution.

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Resident Advisor did a nice interview with Martyn, whom I highly appreciate for not sticking to one genre only. Btw, be sure to check his wowsome dubstep mix.

Life and death in the times of capitalism

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Obviously, I’ve been mostly quiet for a pretty long time. How come I’m back?

I think there have been two things occurring together. Firstly, for the previous three years I’ve been working pretty hard as a IT-consultant for one of the world’s top 3 consultant companies, meaning 50-60 hours per week. As you can imagine, there just wasn’t enough spare time to spend on music. But besides, I now recognize it went well beyond. Stress kills creativity. It really does. I can tell from my past and the fact that now, after quitting, I have put out as many tunes in one month as in the complete previous year. (Btw, I’m co-founder of a technology startup – interesting news to be published here)

The good aspect of the consultant job was that while travelling a lot around business-wise, I often was able to listen to music. Here, the second thing comes into play. I’ve become pretty much bored with was happening DnB-wise. Of course, a lot of tracks seemed to “work” on the floor, but when you look at it from a more musically oriented perspective, they’re too flat to target any emotion. This is, from my personal view, not true for all tracks, but for a majority. So what I did was looking for the tunes/artists who inspire me, and that from a definitely wider angle than DnB. There is a lot of highly interesting electronic music nowadays. And, neuroscience-wise, you are shaped by what you experience. So I decided to be more honest to myself and offered my brain a lot of musical aesthetics I reckoned would help me moving forward. And it worked.

The result is a new-born, free-spirited dizplay, working on the finally edits of a heap of tracks. Feedback has been very good, so watch this place for news and audio bits.
