There seems to be a new hot debate over magazine’s selling out after a typical incident.
RA Editor-In-Chief Tami Fenwick and Reviews Editor Jeremy Armitage resigned when a review of John Digweed’s Transitions 4 was pulled—unbeknownst to them, they claim—from the site in favor of a newer, more favorable critique. (source)
The reason was cited as the magazine founders fear of losing revenues. Well, it is hard these days for print magazines, and obviously many, especially the bigger reviews are “financially supported” by labels. Still, in a time where close to all market players are increasingly losing credibility, activist readers are pretty much likely to switch to other media. The more you rely on alien money, the more it becomes a struggle of providing a source of faith.
